Ostrich Feather Lace Kerchief

This pretty lacy kerchief was designed to be knit with just 90 to 100 yards of lace weight yarn.  Coincidentally this is the same amount of yarn I send in as samples for the Phatfiber sampler box.  What a coincidence! It is truly amazing the amount of millage you get out of such a small amount of lace weight yarn.

I feel this pattern is simple enough for a beginner lace knitter.  It is repetitive and easily memorized, really just a variation of a feather and fan motif.  Add a pearl shank button if yours ends up too short to tie and voila! You have a stunning and quick little luxury!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am just getting into lace knitting and my granddaughter loves wearing pretty kerchiefs/kerchieves? and this fits the bill nicely.

  2. I am beginning this immediately for my daughter – she will love it – Great idea, beautifully exectuted!
    Thank you for sharing!

  3. Love it, love it, love it! This will be my first chart knitting!

  4. This is so beautiful. I was thinking about making something for a friend but hadn’t even started looking. I will extend this to make a shawl and it will be exactly what I had in mind. Do you think there will be any problems making it into a shawl?

    • I think this would be beautiful as a shawl! It will be so simple to make it bigger. Just continue adding repeats until it is is long and wide as you want.

  5. Hi,

I just started knitting this head scarf, and I seem to be running into trouble with the first line of the lace pattern. I have 2 stitches left over! I’ve redone the row three times, thinking that I had just done it wrong, but when I look at the chart and count how many are there, it doesn’t add to 17 there either.

I’m definitely -not- doing the center column twice.

It seems to me that a column is missing on the right side of the chart: center column, first column, then the missing column to mirror the left side, then yarn over column?

Please let me know if I’m just reading the chart wrong!

    Thank you!

    • You are not crazy. It was missing an entire column on the right hand side of the chart. It should be a mirror of the left hand side. I have uploaded a corrected PDF. Thank you for catching that!
